I've been working on a children's book for a while. Since my last semester of college I've finally fleshed out a story to go along with the concept art I did for my Senior Project. I'm ashamed to say it's taken even this long to finally feel confident about it. I'm normally a pretty quick worker. The character and style has changed slightly. This is the first painting I have done for the book and it's the last page of the 32 pager. It's still got a few kinks but I think it's getting close.

The text isn't in the artwork yet. The sheep on the left is going to be saying "Look! That one looks like a sheep!" and the other, less enthusiastic sheep is going to say "Bahhh..."

Sleeping Doves

Lately I've been really inspired by old style letterpress and typography designs. They can be obnoxiously ornate but still really beautiful simultaneously. The attention to detail is really captivating. I've been trying to replicate this sort of style but with a modern twist (and obviously without a letterpress because I don't have one of those lying around). I've been studying poetry and creative writing for a while. This project has allowed me to relish both the physical and poetic aesthetic of words. So I've been taking phrases (lyrics, poems or otherwise) from artists and writers that I admire, as a starting point for some imagery and inspiration. When left up to a listener's interpretation, a song or a poem can have multiple or many layered meanings. So it has been really fun just play with an alternative analysis or to take metaphors literally, ect. This is the first one I worked on. The words are from a song called "World Without End" by A. A. Bondy, which coincidentally I covered the song with my friend Josie a while back as well. I guess I just really like it.

For anyone who is actually familiar with the song, I'm also really a fan of the line "...and hearts pumping blood, in 3/4 time".
I love words. It's just great.

Anyway, there will be more. I'm done gushing now.

Many new projects on the horizon. In the interim, I've been writing lots. My dear friend Cameron and I wrote this song (following) a few weeks back. It's always great to collaborate with others.
